This month’s show is a tribute to the immortal Kelan Phil Cohran — Chicago pioneer, multi-instrumentalist, astronomer, founding member of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), former member of Sun Ra’s Arkestra, and inventor of the frankiphone (predates the kalimba) — whose words in conversation with Carlos Niño in 2012 inspired this mix. Excerpts of the interview are used throughout, but the full length piece is well worth your time (link below).
